Browsing YouTube for rockabilly videos you come across tons of stuff. Most of it is poor quality and you soon get bored browsing for that reason. There are some real rockabilly gems on YouTube however, and we aim to post the videos on this page as we come across them.
We have a broad definition of what is rockabilly. If it sounds like rockabilly and rockabilly fans like it, it also qualifies for this page even though the "official" label might be blues, rhythm'n'blues (the old stuff, not the current nightmare of so-called R'n'B) or rock'n'roll.
So, let the fun begin!
Carl Perkins - Blue Suede Shoes
It can hardly be more rockabilly than to start out with Carl Perkins - aka. The Godfather Of Rockabilly aka The Quiet King Of Rockabilly aka The Real King Of Rockabilly. Furthermore we start with the rockabilly anthem of all times, Blue Suede Shoes. A TV clip from the early days, still performed with the people who were on the smash hit record: Carl Perkins' brother Jay on rhythm guitar, his brother Clayton on double bass and W.S. Holland (Later of the Johnny Cash band, like Carl himself actually!) on drums.
Muddy Waters & Sonny Boy Williamson II - Got My Mojo Working
Check out Willie Dixon slapping that bass. He also used to backup and arrange for Chuck Berry. Admittedly, this is labeled blues but it's pretty darn close to rockabilly.
Don't these guys look real cool in their suits? What's with all those tattoos nowadays?
A band on a mission! The mission is to bring the original, fun and clean (Compared to todays standards) rockabilly to the new generation. They put together a show entitled "Silly Rockabilly" just for kids (and their parents). Not a bad idea.
The Tielman Brothers - Rollin' Rock
Wild? Yes!
Silly? Yes!
Out-of-control? Apparently...
Rubbish? No! These guys can actually play their instruments and it's musically valid even though it's really entertaining to watch. Many current psychobilly bands could learn something from this.
